Permanent Bondage

BDSM symbol

Necessity for BDSM emblem was discussed in discussion groups on the Internet from the beginning of 90th and it was created by Steve Quagmyr in 1994. It has gained over-the-world distribution in BDSM-community later. "We wished to have something that BdSm'ers can carry for recognition each other but that it looked from outside not only as an interesting trinket. It should not be something that could involve teenagers, bikers, heavy metal fans, this symbol shouldn't cause questions, but would be different enough for devoted recognition.

"... Rings were rather unusual: metal, on an internal contour of rings was a border of gold, and on an external part drawing - something reminding a wheel formed by three lines twisting in a spiral (it was desirable to find in it similarity to a solar wheel of Celts), all put by black enamel and gold..." (Polin Reazh "Stories About")

The design has been cast by a symbol described in "Stories About", and was a certain variation of the symbol of In-Jan. It was a variation of "the Chaos Wheel". The design can be interpreted as difference and interdependence of B&D, D&S and S&M as three main principles of BDSM: bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism. The bent lines can be perceived as a birch in movement, and the round form as self-sufficiency and security of all BDSM system. Colours can vary, but the circle and dividing curves should have metal colour.
